That entire period of my life is meant for a separate blog, possibly a book so I won't go into it too much here. The reason I mention this was because of something one of my uncles said about our living arrangements.
My mother was the eternal optimist and tried to make that living space really cozy and comfortable for us.
When my aunt and uncle came over to visit, his comment that will stick in my head forever was, "if you make it too comfortable, you'll never leave it."
I was thinking about that this morning because he was absolutely right.
We stayed there for years and it turned into a nightmare.
If you live in a rental unit and your hope is to purchase a home someday, it's maybe not a good idea to spend too much time on the rental place.
If you work in a job that is only temporary, it might be smart to not get caught up in the gossip and shenanigans of that place so that your mind can focus on where you want to be next.
If you are in a relationship that is terrible and you want out of it, engaging in a useless argument steals the energy that you need to properly fly under the radar to get out.
We aren't promised any moment pass this one so it's nice to make your current situation comfortable. In looking back at what my uncle said, I think part of it was the allocation of time, especially thinking time. Part of it was also recognizing that you're trying to put floral wallpaper over a hole.
Our time here is really precious and each of us needs to decide what we value and what is important. The world offers us so many options and it's up to us to put our mind into a place which is healthy and able to make really healthy decisions.
I certainly have some space in my brain's hard drive that could be allocated for something more productive.
I measure my life in moments now and I can't continue to allow those moments to be raped.
ROCK ON!
Karen :)
