Mother Crow let out two very loud caws. “See? She agrees!” Then, she let out two more…and two more…and two more. They all found a spot to peak out where they saw an entire flock of birds swooping in towards them. There were hundreds of them! Most were crows, ravens and magpies but some were random combatants who joined the fight. They saw seagulls and starlings, robins and even a tiny sparrow. They went from this intense flapping sound to a strategically timed battle-cry when they reached the Juggernaut. It was as though every member of the orchestra speared their bow across their stringed instrumental at the exact same moment. “Bombs away,” screeched Apple Sauce. “Bombs away!” It wasn’t a standard aerial assault with pickle barrel accuracy but more like a hailstorm pummeling the entire area. Each of them was their own flying fortress and you could tell they hadn’t slowed down from the momentum they had in the previous hours and days.
You have heard the phrase, “Be on the right side of history.” Our phones and devices keep our eyes pinned closely to the issues we care about. The decisions our leaders make do affect our people, our environment, our climate and future. Many of us sit in fear of these choices. However Earth itself, is not afraid. It has shifted and adjusted for a very, very long time...and it will again. Humans have the choice to protect some of Earth’s possessions, the environment and the animals. We also have the choice to protect humans. You may be thinking, why is it an “OR” situation? If you prioritize NATURE first, you save humanity too. If you prioritize HUMANS first, we run the risk of killing off ALL OF IT. I believe we need to zoom out and return to compassion, kindness, respect for the environment and stop arguing with each other for the purpose of personal gain. All the money and power doesn’t work on a sick globe... and there is no good reward for being right in an argument. Coming together doesn’t boast. The greater good is WAY bigger than you. We must return to healing.
Only then, can humanity survive on a planet that will be totally ok with booting us off. Now don't be disheartened or feel small as a result. When we understand that there are purposes much bigger than us, we can align ourselves in such a way that our star shines brighter because we choose to be with the stars. You were not supposed to hide your light or allow others to dull the sheen. Magic awaits! Preservation doesn't have to sound mundane. There are things that we are supposed to experience at the highest level...and we are simply "ok" with mediocre? This Earth isn't mediocre...so why should anything be that way which inhabits it? A greater life is waiting for you! Much love, Karen "STUDY nature, STAY CLOSE TO nature, nature will NEVER FAIL YOU." ~Frank Lloyd Wright Many years ago, my partner-in-crime Mark saw the creepy doll I created named Ian. (He is a 9 year old savant who is the star of the first book I am writing. Each book of 7 has a child from a different country ready to fight to restore balance...errr...and an elephant.) Since that time, I have either influenced Mark or just exposed his creepy self. HA! When I explained that Ian's cello comes alive in the story, never did I think he would be interested in ACTUALLY helping to make that happen. (You may have seen the mock-up Frank Gryner did of this vision.) Below are some recent photos of Mark deep inside the head of the 'Skello' and unfortunately for him, lost inside the caverns of my spider-infested brain. May your inner child bring you back to the playground! Karen :) "The most potent muse of all is our own inner child." ~Stephen Nachmanovitch
Victories are in the moments. We all have wings, but they are attached to our back. When they are folded, we can't see them, so we don't think they exist or we forget they exist. When we remind ourselves that they are there, we can move them, concentrate on them, focus on them and take flight using the butterflies in our stomachs to propel us...those same moths that cause us to feel disillusioned, anxious and sick. Music and art make us notice our wings. We all were born with them. I use music and art on a moment-to-moment basis to heal, to remember what flight tastes like and to escape the ground game that I often feel imprisoned to. |
