Last year, we released the video for song #7 from 'Idiot Savant', BLACKGUARD! This year, it was nominated for Music Video of the Year at the Jack Richardson London Music Awards . Big congrats to my co-producer, video-director/animator Frank Gryner who did an amazing job at animating the doll I made and for kicking ass on building a great asylum!
"Karen and Frank’s latest collaboration, a 12-track concept record called Idiot Savant, released late last year, tells the story of Ian, a 9 year old boy whose inner genius is lost on those around him, in the hopes of inspiring listeners to reclaim their inner child and “return to the playground...” If you missed the radio show, you can listen in here:
"Do you ever notice that young children will draw and paint in front of their peers? The older we get, the more we hide in shame behind our work or our art..."
Had a very lovely chat with Christine Caruana from Victim of Sound! From Christine: "For some people music is just music. It is simple entertainment to fill the silence while driving or commuting to work. It keeps you company while doing housework. But for others – hopefully more – music is an art form that heals and teaches us something. Karen Stever is one such individual. Her debut album Playground Isolator was her therapeutic process to help her deal with what was happening in her life at the time and her latest record Idiot Savant, is here to teach us to remember how healing music can be; while reminding us to never lose our inner child. Karen Stever took some time to talk to me about the concept of Idiot Savant, how it will be more than just an album, as it becomes a book and a mini movie as Stever creates a video for each song, how she is simply learning as she goes and encourages others to do the same and to never forget to return to the playground." Stever and our esteemed host Chris Butera go back and forth about a myriad of topics including the art and music of Stever, growing up in their respective areas, hard times, struggles and triumphs..." Christine Caruana from 'Victim of Sound' is one smart cookie...no lyrics in front of her and this is what she picked up from the latest STEVER record, 'Idiot Savant': I would love to sign a CD to you! It was great to talk to fellow Canadians Rock DJ, Emidio Vaz and co-producer Frank Gryner! It was really great to talk to Lance from the Rock 'N' Roll Lounge! We not only touch on the greater message behind 'Idiot Savant', but on the depression I went through during 'Playground Isolator'. Lance ROCKS! It's dark and emotional and an album that Karen hopes will inspire people. As well as the album, Karen is also writing a book. Wicked Spins Radio got a chance to chat to Karen about Idiot Savant, its ideas, the role of Ian in the story and also about why its set in the 1930’s...
"Randy (Metalwulf) and I (Azkath) spoke at length with Karen Stever of Stever on June 2, 2015. We discuss her first album, Playground Isolator!, and her brilliant new concept album, Idiot Savant. Stever, hailing from Canada, is a mix of Symphonic Rock and Metal, with some very quirky elements thrown in. Karen is the primary member of the band, along with co-producer Frank Gryner, they are responsible for all that you hear. Inspired in a large part by her fight with depression, her music is utterly fascinating, and her outlook on the world is rather uplifting..." To keep up-to-date, sign up for the STEVER Newsletter!
