After a remarkable first album, Karen Stever took the time to create a second album at the level of talent that we foresaw in 2008.
But this time, she returns with even more ambition for it is a concept album that she took the time to concoct for us.
Always with her co-producer Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie, A Perfect Circle... ), she decided to take us into this world, both retro and dark. Suffice to say that this is not the kind of album that we peck away at or that we listen distractedly. And our Canadian's not the kind of singer that we forget. Some will hate her phrasing and her way, others will love it!
And do not miss the clips from the album, also prepared by our multi-instrumentalist artist, multi-talented above. This time the universe is reminiscent of the fairgrounds of the 30s, with pianos, complex melodies in a more progressive style than ever. The sound is powerful, worked metal. The melodies are often catchy in a consistent atmosphere of titles. But like any good concept album, there are songs that serve as links to other explanations. Karen, who is going to write the novel soon, just tells a story, a kind of return to a tortured childhood.
"Ian is 9 years old. His childhood was stolen. But Ian has talent, despite bad teachers ... But above all has a special bond with animals."
Sometimes we think of an atmosphere like the Addams Family, while arrangements are approaching the work of Danny Elfman.
Piano is very present throughout the album, much more than the powerful guitar riffs that effectively strengthen the choruses. An example is given in very epic "Idiot Savant" which gives its title to the album. Karen intentionally uses a guttural voice that adds to the atmosphere of a grim tale. The hit of the album remains "Juggernaut” despite being 5 minutes. It shows all the Stever talent and we hear the catchy metal songs while making no concessions to the idea of this album.
A third clip will illustrate this album soon and Karen is very active on social networks. This has allowed us to follow the genesis of this work ... .and certainly the next, which we are anxious to hear the first notes. But by then, it may well be that it goes further than the music.
