I went looking online today to see how many people have ACTUALLY died of spider bites,. While the answers vary from site to site, some say a couple, some say less than 100 in 100 years. There also seems to be a consensus that the people were allergic who did die. Most say it is extremely rare.
What actually bothers me is the fact that most creatures are more scared of us than we are of them. I find this disturbing because that means we as humans have induced fear on the planet. That totally sucks.
The spiders around my house are not deadly. In fact, I have seen the same one sitting in the exact same spot for months and months and she never moves. She most likely will die of lack of food before she kills or harms anything.
I believe our hatred for certain things are bred into us as kids. When I was little, I was taught they were good to have around, so I have kept a consistent fascination and respect for them. Some people are taught that we must KILL KILL KILL. Of course this goes for any pest or rodent. It is easier to just kill it than relocate it or deter it. Please note, you can use Google and the word 'deter' beside most insects or critters and people have found a way to NOT kill them.
In the story of 'Idiot Savant', Ian sees the TRUE history of animals and insects. As a child on the Spectrum, he is not the dummy, the rest of the ignorant world is. We can learn a lot from him.
By the way, 'they are just creepy' is not a reason to hate them. There are plenty of people who are creepier and we have to learn to understand them too. ;)
Off to check on Mommy Spider and see if she is getting fatter,
ROCK ON!
